My name is Phawn (pronounced fawn, fon) just like the baby deer, and I love makeup, and I have a slight obsession with product and product packaging.
I stumbled across makeup artistry in my late teens, and thought it only a decent way to support myself while attending college. I worked at a few Estee Lauder brand counters (Clinique, MAC, Lancome) and learned as much as I could regarding color techniques, skin care, and client service. That stumble into makeup artistry turned into a fall, and I fell completely in love with makeup and its amazing industry!
I was awed by the techniques and tricks of the many makeup artists that I have met along the way. My favorite aspect of being a makeup artist is that you are never truly done learning. I’m constantly learning from other professional makeup artists, beauty gurus (as seen on YouTube), and even a thing or two from clients!
I thought it rather selfish to keep all of my makeup artistry knowledge and skills to myself, and that’s why I’m here! I love to share, and what better way to do so than with you!

As things started falling into place, her next endeavor was a makeup artist position at Le Visage Makeup Boutique working alongside professional makeup artist Lina Sogomoyan, specializing in wedding, special occasion and print makeup. Arielle always had an entrepreneur spirit. After 4 years at Le Visage Makeup Boutique, Arielle decided it was time to step out on faith and start her own business which she had always dreamed of. Arielle is now a licensed Esthetician and the Eyelash Extension course educator at LB Beauty Academy here in Richmond, Va.
I fell in love with makeup artistry over 13 years ago. My journey began with MAC cosmetics where I became a professional licensed artist and explored my creativity. After becoming advanced certified, I moved to Tampa, Florida to take on a new challenge with the company as a store operations manager. My life’s journey took me to the big apple, New York City, where I opened and managed the Shu Uemura Counter in the flagship store Bloomingdales on 59th Street. I was trained under the lead master artists of the Shu Uemura brand and embraced my new city life. Since then I have shared my love for beauty as a Territory Manager for Laura Mercier, and most recently opened my own Artistry business, an on-site location makeup company now in Richmond, Virginia.
After getting married in October 2015 to my prince charming, I became a “dog mom” to our sweet baby girl Lilly and if I ever win the lottery- dream of opening an animal rescue. I am dedicated to following my hearts true passion as a full time airbrush makeup artist and am honored to work with such talented vendors in my adventures. “I believe women are pretty without makeup– and can be pretty powerful with the right makeup.” – Bobbi Brown

Kara credits her interest in professional makeup to spending the whole summer grounded the year she turned 12. As a result, she was sent to live in Williamsburg with her aunt who worked at a salon. There was little to do there, and Kara found herself spending every day hanging out at the salon and watching the artists there. It didn’t take long before she became fascinated by watching the makeup artists completely transform their clients, and she thought the whole process was the coolest, most fascinating thing. Kara knew she needed to do this too.
Being the true entrepreneur she is, Kara’s makeup clientele began forming at the middle school lunch table–charging her friends $10 for special event makeup. It didn’t take long before she saw bigger, better opportunities on the horizon and expanded her business to include applying theatrical makeup for her school’s theater program. To this day, she still considers herself quite the thespian. Kara started working at MAC just two days after graduating from highschool and worked with the business for almost a decade. Following this, she worked for Sephora–where she became certified to educate for the company. While working at both makeup companies, Kara was also working diligently to build her freelance clientele–which she now continues to do after her big move from the Virginia Beach oceanfront to downtown Richmond about a year and a half ago.
Kara finds inspiration from everything–whether it be the most natural of faces to the most dramatic theatrical looks. Texture, color, and oil paintings have a huge inspiration on what she creates for her clients. Most importantly, Kara just has a genuine love for people. She knew makeup was her calling because it’s where she finds her joy–the process of making people feel like their best, most beautiful, enhanced version of their natural selves is what drives her to create. Her goal for the future is to continue to learn, educate, and hopefully inspire others in the same way that she’s always been inspired by the beautifully talented people she’s admired over the course of her career in the industry.
